5055 Enrollment in Kindergarten

A child must reach the age of five on or before July 31st of the calendar year to be enrolled in kindergarten. The school district may enroll a child who will reach the age of five between August 1st and October 15th of the year of enrollment if the parent or guardian requests such enrollment and provides an affidavit stating:

(a) the child attended kindergarten in another jurisdiction in the current school year; or

(b) the family anticipates relocating to another jurisdiction that would allow admission within the current year; or

(c)the child has demonstrated through recognized assessment procedures approved by the board that he or she is capable of performing the work of kindergarten:

  1. Mental ability defined as scoring at or above the 84th percentile on a standardized assessment of cognitive ability such as the Wechsler Pre Primary Scale of Intelligence IV or the Wechsler nonverbal, and

  2. A test of social/emotional development such as the Behavior Assessment System for Children, Second Edition (BASC-2) with score in the average range, and

  3. Score at or above the 75th percentile on a test of pre academic skills such as the Bracken or Brigance academic and/or fine motor.
