Career Preparation

March 11, 2013

Seniors participating in Ms Archer's Career Preparation/Transition courses have been working all school year to experience a smooth transition from LHS to various post-secondary environments.  Students have been busy finalizing their career and employment plans for after high school by setting post-school goals in the areas of education, employment, and independent living.

In order to make informed decisions, seniors have completed a variety of both formal and informal transition assessments, have attended both college planning and career fairs, have completed the ASSET or COMPASS community college placement exam, and/or have taken the ACT college entrance exam, and have made various college/university/job site visitations.  In addition, students are in the process of completing job shadowing experiences and interviews in the career area(s) of their choice, are busy working on college applications, completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), developing an accurate and up-to-date resume, completing scholarship applications including writing college essays, and various other planning activities.  Finally, these seniors are in the process of completing an electronic career portfolio on the website.

In concert with these transition courses, identified seniors also receive transition support from VR Nebraska employment and transition specialists. The role of VR Nebraska, a federally funded program that operates within the NE Dept of Education, is primarily one of planning and helping to identify appropriate post-school goals and needed supports.

In order to learn more about VR services, please visit their website at or find them on Facebook at "Nebraska VR".  For further information about LHS transition services, contact Ms Becky Archer, LHS Transition Coordinator, at 308-324-4691 extension 2-309.
