Grasshopper Gymnastics

October 3, 2011

In Mrs. LePorte's Honors Biology, students have been learning how to apply the scientific process by doing a lab where they had to measure the length of a grasshopper's jumping leg compared to the length of it's body.  Students then had to graph the class results and analyze the data to determine if the size of the jumping leg or the size of the grasshopper affected the length of the grasshopper's jump.  The longest jump was 144cm and the longest flight was 755cm.  Students are also in the process of catching insects to be used in a lab where they will learn how organisms are classified.
