LHS Game Club

January 14, 2014

The Lexington High School Game Club has played a variety of board, video and role-playing games this school year, but now the club has decided to go "old school" with a role-playing game called The Basic Fantasy Role Playing Game.  This particular game is free as the rules are written entirely by the enthusiasts that play the game as while it follows the ideas and rules of Dungeons and Dragons, it has its own unique set of rules and characters that allow for free distribution to anyone that wants to download and play.

In any role-playing game you decide on the type of character you wish to build, you roll dice to determine what kinds of features your character will have and you use that character in the missions that the Basic Fantasy universe has to offer.  Examples of characters include Elves, Wizards, Barbarians, Bards, Sorceress, etc. and each character has its own unique set of features and abilities.  As the students participate in role-playing contests their characters become stronger or "level up" in gaming terminology and become more powerful and learn new abilities.

The game club will be hosting several Basic Fantasy RPG contests during the remainder of second semester and any eligible LHS student is invited to join in as a character can be created in less than 1 hour!  The LHS Game Club typically meets every Monday in Mrs. Karges' room #303 from 3:30 to 4:40 so stop by to get in on the fun!
