Oedipus the King

January 14, 2013

English 2 students have delved into Oedipus the King by Sophocles in their first week back to school this semester. Many were surprised to know that the basis of the story is that Oedipus kills his father and marries his mother. Some of the deeper themes the students will be looking at are predetermined fate, overuse and misuse of power, and how the gods in Greek mythology were portrayed. The students are having a little fun with the text because it is a play, so they are using their dramatic skills to make the read a little more interesting!
