Senior Seminar at LHS

November 13, 2013

Wednesday, November 6th, marked the 6th annual Senior Seminar at Lexington High School.  Twenty colleges and thirteen businesses were represented at the College and Career Fair portion of the day.   The military was also represented by the Army and the Army National Guard.  Students were engaged with the different representatives who provided college information from the programs offered at their school to specifics on campus life.  The businesses encouraged the students to look into careers during the summer to get experience.  One of the most popular stops was the Joseph's College of Hair Design where participants were treated to having their hair streaked!

The seniors transitioned to four other sessions which included Job Etiquette presented by Katy Bohnhoff and Shane Roberts from the YMCA.  Sam Jilka, a teacher at LHS, did a session called Transitions.  This helps the students prioritize these last months in high school and work out ways to handle the stress that the senior year brings.  Stacy Seim from Education Quest helped the students with estimators.  Many of our students apply for the Susan T. Buffett scholarship, along with many other scholarships, that may require proof of financial need.  One final stop was in the Community Room where the seniors applied to the colleges that they were interested in attending.  Mrs. Wozny reports that 143 students requested their transcripts be sent to colleges around Nebraska and other states.

Steph Nichols from ABLE helped with the coordination of this event.  Many thanks to the colleges, businesses, and presenters for a very educational day for the seniors of LHS.
