Short Stories from the Depression Era

September 26, 2013

Students in English 1 classes at the High School are currently reading short stories set during the Depression era.  "Marigolds" by Eugenia Collier and "The Osage Orange Tree" by William Stafford are two short stories that students will read.  The main characters in these two stories are undergoing a rite of passage, or in other words, the journey of growing up.  Students have written structured paragraphs with quotations from the stories that explain what it would be like to grow up during this time period.
