Students enjoy learning about current events

April 26, 2013

The Students in Mr. Carnes' 9th and 10th grade American History classes have been focused on current events over the course of the school year.  Everyday students examine three or four current events occurring in the United States or from around the world.  Usually on Fridays they have quizzes testing their knowledge.  In addition, they summarize articles from the New York Times Upfront magazine, which focuses on current events.  Carnes' also shows various news clips from network news channels to bring to life the current events.

This week the students are examining current events about the Boston bombings, the Philadelphia doctor charged with eight murders and the Bird Flu in China.

"I enjoy learning about current events," said 9th grader Josue Ayala.  "Sometimes Mr. Carnes can tie the current events to things that have happened in the past."

"Kids have always seemed to enjoy current events," said the teacher.
