Velocity & Acceleration

January 30, 2013

Mr. Connot's Physical Science classes are using our CPO equipment to determine velocity and acceleration.  The students are measuring the time it takes for their "car" to pass through a photogate (timer).  Based on that time, the students are able to calculate the velocity at various points along the ramp.  Once the students have mastered calculating velocity, they can use this information to calculate their car's acceleration as it travels down the ramp.  The students control several variables in these experiments such as the position of their ramp and the position of their photogates.  The data collected is used to create graphs that show the relationship between distance, speed, acceleration and time.
