Community Proposals in the Classroom

April 2, 2015

Over the course of the last month students in English III have been completing a group-based community service project proposal.  Based on the concept of this year’s NeSA Writing test, which asked students what they would improve in their community, teams created project proposals including writing mission statements, conducting interviews and surveys, making a plan of action based on local and school documents and additional research, and giving a final presentation to an audience to ask for help and support.  Some of the students likened the project as similar to “Shark Tank.”  Overall, teams enjoyed the project and learned a great deal about how they can give back to the community of Lexington, while gaining valuable experience in how English relates to real-world issues and activities.
