Hanaphy’s English Class

October 8, 2015

This semester in my English classes, we are currently busy reading The Scarlet Letter and A Streetcar Named Desire in our sophomore and junior classes. Both have great messages and fascinating characters that are relatable, even to our modern tech-savvy generations.

We are about to begin scene five in Streetcar. Students have been a little shocked, but also very engaged in the controversial themes that sadly are all too applicable to real life.

In our junior classes, we are entering the last few chapters of The Scarlet Letter. Hawthorne’s books take some time to establish characters and plot, but once the action got going, the students seemed to enjoy the story, and hate the cowardly Dimmesdale who cannot face the consequences of his actions.

The first quarter has flown by here in the fall of 2015. Hopefully that’s a good sign in the sense that ‘time flies when you’re having fun’, but to get a real answer, you’d have to ask my English students!
