Pythagorean Theorem Projects

April 9, 2015

Geometry covers a range of topics including shapes such as parallelograms, rhombi, trapezoid, and triangles.  More specifically, when it comes to triangles we extensively study the Pythagorean Theorem.  Pythagoras, a famous mathematician, came up with the following theorem to be used on right triangles to find a missing side length.

In our Geometry classes, we used the Pythagorean Theorem to complete a project called the Pythagorean Spiral. The students use the theorem to find the missing side length of the triangle and to continue the spiral.  Then the students were able to decorate their projects.  The students worked very hard on the mathematical computations and the creativity they put into completing their project.

Listed below are a few examples of the projects.

You should be able to see the spiral created by right triangles in each picture.
