Students in Mr. Jilka's English Communication revisited and read the classic children 's story  The Cat in the Hat.  The story was a springboard into teaching students how to analyze a literary work using literary tools of plot, theme, characterization and psychoanalytical criticism. After examining the plot and theme, students classified the characters from the story using Id, Ego, and Superego. Students developed an argument and gathered evidence supporting that argument by identifying examples of indirect characterization in the story.
