Successful Vocal Music Department

March 23, 2015

The vocal music department has been buzzing with excitement throughout third quarter. From 7am show choir rehearsals to 7pm Oklahoma rehearsals, kids have been singing and singing. We are excited to have presented the first School Musical in almost a decade. “Oklahoma!” hit the stage at the Middle School auditorium on March 8th, 9th and 10th and was immensely successful. It was an eye-opening experience for our students to discover just how much work, planning and coordination goes into a musical. We had a steep learning curve and the students were truly on a mission to give all they could. It was a joy for myself, as a teacher, to see the growth in our students throughout the process. I can’t wait for next year!

Back in the classroom, following a hugely successful Holiday Concert in December, the choirs have been working hard at fundamental skills. We have used music of the renaissance era (1400-1600) to exercise our sight-reading ability. The music is complex and requires a trained eye to follow the music. Again, just as with the students involved with the musical, our Lexington High students have worked hard to keep up with the difficult task in front of them. I am so pleased with all that our students have accomplished this quarter and am looking forward to what lies ahead.
