Preparation is Imperative
May 3, 2012
The students in English Communications are preparing to start a new novel to end the semester. The novel they will be reading is Parrot in the Oven by Victor Martinez, and is a Latino American based novel about a young boy growing up in America. The students have been prepping for the book all week.
Sometimes the activities they do before they read are the most important. It may be difficult for some students to jump right in to something new without some kind of preface first. This week the students have responded to pictures depicting the "Latino American Experience" and how that can mean something different to each person. The students have also been working on literary terms that they will need to know while reading.
Hopefully all this preparation will get the students excited to begin their new novel and end the semester on a positive note!
