Expanding Horizons One Word at a Time

November 16, 2018

There is an undeniable connection between understanding words and understanding what you read. At LHS, students have been hard at work learning vocabulary in all subject areas. As parents, it is so hard to know how we can help our children academically, however, there are several quick and easy ways to assist our students in broadening their vocabulary.

  1. Provide synonyms and antonyms for new words; by providing words that mean the same thing and words that mean the opposite, we can help provide a picture of a word’s meaning.

  2. Use the word in a sentence!

  3. Play games that involve words, like Scrabble.
