Intro Into Athletic Training

October 10, 2017

The students in Mr. Bretschneider’s Intro into Athletic Training class have been hard at work learning Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or better known as CPR.  They now have an understanding of how to save a person’s life by being able to recognize different types of emergencies, such as heart attacks, strokes, and different types of injuries, and then will be able to take care of those emergency situations. The class will also develop skills and very useful knowledge in the use of Automated External Defibrillators, or better know as an AED.  These devises analyze the heart’s rhythm and decide if the heart is not in the proper rhythm and then decide if there is a need for a shock to get the heart back into the proper rhythm. Once this chapter is over the class will have the ability to get certified in CPR by the American Red Cross.  The certification will be good for 2 years before they will need to get a refresher course.

The class is also busy setting up and helping work athletic events for the High School.  At these events students are able to experience what goes into being an Athletic Trainer at a sporting event.  The students get the opportunity to see if this is a career path they would like to follow by getting to be on the sidelines, and getting to help the team.
