Intro Into Athletic Training Class

February 12, 2018

The Intro Into Athletic Training class has been hard at work talking about the world of Athletic Training.  They are currently wrapping up their chapter about specific types of injuries.   The class now knows the difference between a sprain and a strain.  For example a sprain is an injury to a ligament and a strain in an injury that happens to a muscle or tendon.  They have also been studying fractures, and other specific types of injures. In the class we also have lab days. The class works on their skills for preventative medicine by learning different ways to tape.  They have currently been working on taping ankles and wrists to prevent ankle and wrist sprains.

In the next chapter we will be diving into the Red Cross CPR Chapter.  The Intro Class will have the opportunity to become certified in CPR from the American Red Cross.  Included in this chapter the Intro Class will be also learning how to help a choking victim, perform first aid, and how to use an AED.

The class is also busy setting up and helping work athletic events.  At these events students are able to see what it is like to get on the sideline of a game and experience what an Athletic Trainer does on a daily basis, and they get to see if this would be a career choice that they would like to make in the future.
