Mrs. Zarek’s Reading Skills Class

November 21, 2016

As a Reading class, we are all anticipating Thanksgiving break, but we have still been working away.  This quarter we are learning all about teens that commit crimes.  It is interesting to learn about the different consequences teens are faced with, once they have made the wrong decision.  The major question we are examining is:  Should teens be sent to adult prison, or is there an alternative?  We recently finished an article about a teenage boy who got involved in gang life.  He fought it out in the streets and ended up in prison.  We got to read about how he changed his life around and became a youth counselor, which was pretty empowering.  We are quickly realizing that the choices we make are already impacting our lives – whether it is for the good or for the bad.
