For the past few weeks in American History II our focus has been on WWII. This past week our area of focus has been the preparation and execution of Operation Overlord also known as D-Day. The students have been watching videos as well as reading documents focused on the strategies that went into making the invasion of Normandy, France successful. They found amusement in the “fake army” set up by the Allies across from where Hitler believed they would invade. The idea of establishing an army of inflatable tanks and planes as well as having fake radio conversations intrigued the students.

Along with Operation Overlord other battles of the war in Europe were also covered such as Stalingrad and the Battle of the Bulge. The students have all chosen a topic that we have covered to present over for their final such as Pearl Harbor, Battle of the Atlantic, and weapons of WWII. We will finish up the Pacific Theatre at the beginning of Second Semester and have discussions over the use of atomic weapons as a means to end the war.
