Pi Day not Pie Day

       Pi is defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to it’s diameter. Pi is an irrational number meaning that it is a real number that doesn’t end. 

The digits of pi are listed below.

The symbol to represent pi is 𝝅. So what is Pi Day? Pi Day is on March 14th annually because the first digits of pi are 3.14. Some math teachers celebrate Pi Day, whereas others do not.

A few ideas to celebrate Pi Day:

  1. Make Pie.
  2. Have students memorize the digits of Pi. Make it a competition between classes to see which class can memorize the most digits.
  3. Complete a Pi Day activity, using pi in circumference or area of circles.
