Turning Point

October 27, 2017

The ninth grade American History class is learning about a major turning point in the history of America:  “Civil War”.   Currently, they are researching the most important Civil War battles.  The two major battles that proved to be turning points were the battles at Gettysburg and Vicksburg.  The students’ goal is to research and analyze each of these battles. The culmination of their studies will include a presentation to show their personal thoughts on which was the most important battle that resulted in a Union victory.

The students were given guided questions to research both battles.  Main areas of research included strategies, advantages, generals, reasons for outcomes, and how the result of this battle contributed to the overall victory of the Union in the Civil War.  Students will complete their guided notes, in addition to the presentation in which they will showcase the facts about the battle and their argument for why it was the most important event determining the outcome of the Civil War.
