We did it!

The Minuteman staff has submitted entries in ten categories for the Nebraska High School Activities Association State Journalism Contest.  Eleven students entered their original work for the preliminary contest.

Journalism is unlike other NSAA state tournaments. There are two classes in journalism, A and B. Students submit their preliminary entries to the state and then a judge reviews the submission and ranks them. If a student places at this time they have won a class medal. From there all of the placers for each category are entered for the All Class State Journalism Competition. With the exception of a couple of categories students compete in a live competition. Once their allowed time has ended students submit their work and wait for awards. Should a student medal at the live competition they receive an All Class medal. Meaning out of class A and B they are the best of the best. Last year our theme development caught the judge’s eye, but did not move on to the live competition. Jose Romero medaled in the class competition and at the All Class competition he placed eighth in the sports action photography category.  In 2014, Yracema Rivas was an All Class State Champion in yearbook layout and Erica Con placed fourth in news feature photography.
