A New Year in a New Building and Classroom!!!

September 15, 2014

Keyboarding /Computer Skills classes have moved to a new room in the Middle School and we are excited!!! Even though it is a long trek from the core classrooms to the north end of the new building, we are enjoying the new space.

Another change for this year in the Explore rotation is a shortened term. Instead of the traditional quarter classes that students were used to, they are now rotating through six classes for six weeks each.

Sixth grade students will be working on basic keyboarding skills using the EduType software program to help them to learn the proper keystroke for the alphabet. The important aspect for 6thincrease their speed and accuracy. Typing is a skill that must be learned and then practiced to become proficient. Typing is a skill that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

Keyboarding/Computer Skills for 7th and 8th graders includes a refresher on typing alphabetic keys plus an introduction to numbers and symbols. We are also trying to incorporate some basic word formatting skills to help students as they type papers for various classes. In this shortened format, we will only be able to cover some basics, but if students practice and use these skills correctly, they will have them for a lifetime.
