Student Led Conferences

October 25, 2012

It is that time of the year again. Our school conferences is being held Thursday, October 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We are pleased to announce that again this year we will be conducting student-led conferences. For those of you who may be new to this procedure, the student-led conference is much different than traditional parent-teacher conferences in which the teacher does most of the talking, the parent listens, and the student is not present. Student-led conferencing empowers the student to inform his/her progress. It is a research-based practice used in many exemplary middle schools.

During the conference process, students will report on academic progress, articulate goals, report on assessment data when appropriate, and share examples of their course work. They will present samples of schoolwork from all of their core classes. In short, the students will be running the show!

We believe that the student-led conference process puts the responsibility for reporting learning where it needs to be - with the student. We are pleased with the learning that is happening at LMS and know that our students are eager to present their progress to their parents.

Happy Conferences!
