January 11, 2019

If you are like most people, you probably have/had a fear of public speaking.  They even have a word for this, glossophobia. Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking.  But, if you are willing to give it a try, public speaking has more benefits than you might think. Here is a list of benefits offered through public speaking:

  1. Builds confidence

  2. Strengthens reasoning skills

  3. Improves oral communication skills

  4. Improves leadership skills

  5. Provides a chance to meet others with similar interests

  6. Strengthens your self-esteem

  7. Requires you to pay attention to your physical presence

  8. Develops better listening and writing skills

  9. Learn to be calm in stressful situations

  10. Inspire and motivate others

We are just beginning our Speech Class journey.  Each class only lasts nine weeks. All classes have finished their first presentation and are beginning to work on the next one.  We start with the basics and increase expectations as we go. At the end of the quarter, we may not be experts, but we will have improved in each of these 10 areas.  Based on student reviews, Speech Class may not be for everyone, but everyone finds something they enjoy about taking Speech Class.
