Students Leading Conferences

Lexington Middle School held school conferences on Thursday, February 14, 2014 from 9:00AM to 6:00PM at the middle school.  This semester, conferences were student-led.  This set up is much different than traditional parent-teacher conferences, where the teacher does most of the talking, the parent listens, and the student is not present.  Student-led conferencing empowers the student to direct and report on his/her own progress at school.

During the conference, students will report on academic progress and share their strengths and weaknesses.  This year, students were able to share their Individualized Learning Plans (ILP) with their parents.  This plan shows NWEA MAP results, NeSA scores, and STAR scores from previous years to the current testing year.  Teachers are available to talk to parents during this process as well. We believe that this process puts the responsibility for reporting learning where it needs to be, with the student.  We also believe that communication between parents and their students is vital to success in school.
