Best Trip Ever: Washington D.C. 2019

October 22, 2019

Twenty-seven students, two teachers, a few moms and an aunt were lucky enough to get to take part in our first World Classrooms trip to Washington D.C.  We took off from LMS aboard a charter bus early on the morning of July 26.  We flew from Omaha to D.C. and hit the ground running.  On Day 1 we visited the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, as well as the MLK, FDR, and Jefferson Memorials.  Day 2 included a U.S. Capitol tour, Library of Congress, Union Station, Holocaust Memorial Museum, WWII, Vietnam & Korean War Memorials, and the Lincoln Memorial.  On Day 3 we traveled outside of the city to tour Mt. Vernon, then back to D.C. to check out the National Archives and a couple Smithsonian Museums.  We wrapped up Day 3 at National Harbor, which was within walking distance of our hotel – the Gaylord National.  On Day 4 we toured Arlington National Cemetery and got to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solder as well as the JFK Eternal Flame, and the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima).  It was an action-packed weekend and an opportunity I would highly suggest taking advantage of.

We are in the planning stages for a trip July 29-August 1, 2021.  There will be an informational parent meeting on Tuesday, October 29 at 6:00 pm in the LMS cafeteria.
