Lexington Public Schools is now accepting applications for following assistant coaching positions.

In order to serve as a head or assistant coach or sponsor of any activity sponsored by the NSAA individuals must possess a valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate or Nebraska Administrative and Supervisory Certificate issued by the Nebraska Department of Education.

Individuals who do not possess either of these Nebraska certificates, can obtain a Special Services Certificate from the Nebraska Department of Education to meet the NSAA requirement.

Obtianing a Special Services Certificate for Coaching:

1. Complete (2) online NFHS course at www.nfhslearn.com/courses.

      • Fundamentals of Coaching
      • First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches

2. Fingerprint cards are required if you have not continuously lived in Nebraska for the past five (5) years.

3. Complete the Nebraska Department of Education Special Services Certificate application at www.education.ne.gov/TCERT.

4. Submit original certificates to the Nebraska Department of Education indicating completion of the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching & NFHS First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches. 

5. The Nebraska Department of Education will send the Special Services Certificate electronically to the individual’s email address included on the application. 

6. The certificate will be valid for five (5) years and can be renewed.

Lexington Public Schools has two openings for fulltime general maintenance positions.
Applicants must have some knowledge in heating and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and carpentry. Applicants for this job must be able to work in varying heights, in weather extremes throughout the year, lift up to 75 pounds unassisted, and have ability to run different types of power equipment. Applicants will be required to obtain a CDL with a bus permit within the first 4 months of employment. Basic computer skills are required. Lexington Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Sixpence Home Visitor for the 2025-2026 school year. Applicants must have the Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree bachelor’s degree in: 

  • Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Special Education
  • Nursing including at least twelve (12) graduate or undergraduate hours in any combination of family-centered practices or child and youth development.
  • Child Development

The McKinney-Vento Liaison ensures that students who are experiencing homelessness are identified, enrolled without barriers, and have equal access to educational services. The liaison coordinates transportation, school meals, and academic support; trains staff on homeless student rights; maintains required records; and connects families to community resources. Liaisons must comply with federal McKinney-Vento Act requirements and state guidelines (e.g., Nebraska Rule 19). Strong collaboration, communication, and advocacy skills are essential. 

  • Identify children and youth who meet the McKinney-Vento definition of homelessness, including those living in shelters, motels, cars, or doubled-up situations.
  • Ensure immediate enrollment of eligible students, regardless of missing documentation (e.g., immunization records, proof of residence, school records).
  • Collect and maintain accurate data on McKinney-Vento students (e.g., housing status, unaccompanied status, academic performance, graduation rates).
  • Maintain up-to-date records of identified students and services provided.
  • Serve as a liaison between students/families experiencing homelessness and school staff, service providers, and community agencies (e.g., DHHS, Dawson County Partners).
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with the McKinney-Vento paraprofessional to provide timely and effective support.
  • Collaborate with school staff and outside partners to coordinate transportation, meals, school supplies, hygiene items, clothing, and other essential supports.
  • Assist families in accessing community resources such as housing, health care, and social services.
  • Coordinate year-round support services, including during school breaks (summer, holidays).
  • Disseminate public notices and provide training to school personnel on McKinney-Vento rights and responsibilities.
  • Complete required annual McKinney-Vento Liaison training and submit certification to the Student Services Director by September 30.
  • Support the Student Services Director with required data collection and reporting for the Nebraska Department of Education.
  • Coordinate special programs and events, such as Dental Day with UNMC and support from the Migrant Program (e.g., vouchers, backpacks).
  • Maintain and organize inventory of donated and purchased items (e.g., school supplies, hygiene products, coats, gloves).
  • Requisition and track purchases for student needs (e.g., gym shoes, clothing, supplies), and coordinate with the business office on shopping and purchasing procedures.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR(s): Migrant Coordinator and Student Services Director

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  A Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Act and/or experience working with vulnerable populations. Bilingual skills are preferred, but not required.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:  The Migrant Coordinator will oversee McKinney Vento staff and assist with performing the program responsibilities. Student Services Director will oversee compliance with the grant and state reporting.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external agencies. Organizational and recordkeeping skills to manage case files and reporting. Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations.

TRAVEL AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS:  Travel may be required. Must maintain a driver’s license, and complete appropriate training and requirements from the district transportation department.

SALARY RANGE:  Dependent upon education and experience.

Substitute Teacher steps in when the regular Teacher is absent. In short-term roles, they are primarily responsible for following the lesson plans already created by the regular Teacher, but in a long-term role, they create their own lesson plans in accordance with the established curriculum and the regular Teacher’s learning outcomes for the class. In addition to instruction, the Substitute Teacher monitors and reports on student behavior and maintains a positive learning environment where all students are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and generally receive the individual attention they need to effectively learn the material in the lesson plan.

Responsibilities and Duties

    • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
    • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
    • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
    • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria
    • Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
    • For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plans

Part-Time Bus Driver

School Bus Drivers safely transport passengers and students to and from school. School Bus Drivers perform pre and post trip vehicle inspections, ensuring their school bus is clean and well maintained. School Bus Drivers assist students with loading and unloading onto the school bus. School Bus Drivers resolve emergency and non-emergency situations that occur on the way to and from school.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Transport children to and from school in the mornings and afternoons
  • Verify permissions for children who ride home with friends
  • Maintain a clean and mechanically-sound bus at all times
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route
  • Ensure the safety of all students
  • Discipline children when required to maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Assist students with getting on and off the bus when required
  • Must complete yearly physical fitness requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • CDL license required
  • 1+ years’ experience driving a school bus (training provided for the right candidate)
  • No at-fault traffic accidents in the last 5 years
  • Clean driving record (no traffic citations in last 5 years)
