Freshman College-Visit Day
On Wednesday, November 5 over 240 Lexington High School loaded the busses and traveled to Grand Island Central Community College and Hastings Central Community College to learn about educational opportunities after graduation. Students and their Foundation of Leadership teacher and additional staff members were provided tours of both campuses to hear specific information related to the college offerings.
The Grand Island CCC campus offers 22 career educational programs and academic transfer courses in 18 areas for students who want to transfer to a four year college or university after completing their associate degree at GICCC. Some programs the students viewed included criminal justice in which students toured a crime scene house, welding, drafting, EMT/paramedic training, business administration, and electrical.
Hastings CCC campus, which offers 28 career educational programs, featured not just their programs but highlighted the student living arrangements that were available for students. Freshmen were exposed to various programs that included automotive, manufacturing, diesel technology and heavy equipment, culinary, and dental assisting.
The full day of touring the campuses allowed for students to become more aware of offerings and potential career paths they may choose in the future.
