Plant Projects are Near Completion!

Students in Mr. Klein’s Ecology classes are wrapping up their Plant Projects. Students had to collect 30 noncultivated plants, press them, and identify them. They will present their collections to Mr. Klein who will scored each plant’s various categories.

The purpose of the plant project is to, first, familiarize students with plants that form the base of the mixed-grass prairie biome that we live in. Secondly, there are some students in our school that never venture outside of city limits unless it’s in the car. A project like this gets students into nature and experience what’s in those fields as they drive by them.

Wet conditions and cool nights help students find plants even late into this fall. Generally, most students bring the same plants, but this years students brought some of the most unique plants. Even a silver scurf-pea!
